Bright Mind Books was set up to create informative wellbeing resources for children who like to read books with a fun, rhyming tone. My inspiration came from reading Julia Donaldson books to my own children when they were younger and they loved the clever rhyming, as did I as a parent. The Bright Mind Book collection have a common theme of compassion, wellbeing and neurodiversity running through them with titles such as The Delicate Elephant, Nourish to Flourish, Living with an allergy, My name is Callum, Living with Hearing Loss, 10 Ways to Express Myself and ADHD is the abbreviation.

The River Colne project was developed by the Watford Council and I was approached as a local poet to deliver a series of 12 poetry sessions and write a commissioned piece about the River Colne.

The creative writing and poetry workshops are fun, engaging and informative. They start with some story-telling, followed by questions and answers and then activities which help children understand the process from idea generation, creative writing, editing and publishing.
Testimonials “It has been wonderful having a poet visit the children at Ashfield Junior School. Ms Shah shared her passion for poetry by reading her own books which the children enjoyed listening to. The workshops with the children were fun and children engaged with the rhyming”. activity and were then inspired to write their own poetry. Mr Dourado – Ashfield Junior School Head Teacher
